Try the Green Dragon Pub (and brewery)

My wife and I and a bunch of friends went down to the Green Dragon (the Lucky Lab was waaay to packed) in SE Portland. What a cool place this is for microbrew! If you love microbrew (budweiser fans go elsewwhere) then check this place out, they offer a lots of guest beers so you'll be in nirvana (isn't that PDX for microbrew anyway?). Plus the food was great. I had the Kobe cheddar burger and my wife had the grilled salmon sandwich, both of which we loved. French fries were really good, too! Only downside was that there weren't enough help to pour brew and take food orders. This was Saturday afternoon (2/13/10 around 3 pm). They did do the best they could (no problem there).

Forgot to mention that this was my first visit to the Dragon, but it won't be the last. Picnic tables, good beer and good food make this a winner. GAWD I LOVE PORTLAND!

Try it, you'll like it..........

Solid beer selection

The Green Dragon is a great pub in the industrial SE that has an ever rotating collection of NW microbrews on tap. The atmosphere is very casual, and during the warmer months they have a nice outside area to put back pints in sun. They always have a great selection of IPAs on tap - and having been recently acquired by Rogue, will soon have an even better menu.

Not what I'd hoped, but not bad

I recently met a colleague at The Green Dragon for a meeting, after having heard very good things about it from several people.

While the place is nice, it's just not what I had envisioned or hoped in a couple of ways. Yes, they have a great rotating tap, so the beer selection is good, and of course they have their own on-sit distilled spirits (I don't drink liquor often, so I can only vouch for the Czechvar Pils that I had). The food menu, though, is limited (albeit with some enticing and unusual fare), pricey for what it is and it turns out the portions were small.

The service, I felt, was poor-to-fair at best. This was an afternoon meeting, and the place was not crowded, but it took quite a while for every step of service, and when I wanted to pay, I could not even track down our server, and a bartender fairly gruffly indicated I would need to find her, even though he was at that time manning the cash register.

The place is very large inside - much, much larger than I had expected. That said, it's a little on what I think of as kind of the granola-upscale vibe - sort of like the Lucky Lab. Not really my thing, as I go for extremes - extremely divey, or extremely swank. Green Dragon is neither, thought it definitely is very "Portland".
